Set or remove the customer on Shopify orders
Set or remove the customer on Shopify orders
Sometimes an order in Shopify is missing a customer, or it’s linked to the wrong one. With Mixtable, you can fix this directly in your Orders (no line items) worksheet by updating the Customer Email field, then syncing the changes back to Shopify.
This is especially helpful when you need to link past guest checkouts to existing customers, or clean up customer assignments across multiple orders.
Add a Customer Email column to your worksheet
If your Orders (no line items) worksheet already has a Customer Email column, skip ahead to the next section. To add it:
- Click on an empty column in your Orders (no line items) worksheet (or insert a new one)
- To load new Shopify data, start by selecting an empty column — any column with a non-green header (green headers mean the column is already linked to Shopify data). Then, click the
button in the column header to open the selection window to choose the data you want to pull in.

- Under Shopify Sync Settings, select Shopify data fields
- Search for and select Customer Email
- Click Save
Set, change, or remove the customer
In the Customer Email column:
- To set or change the customer: Enter the email address of an existing Shopify customer
- To remove the customer from an order: Clear the cell so it’s blank
You can update as many orders as you need before syncing.
Sync your changes to Shopify
- Click Send to Shopify
- Mixtable will look up each customer by email and update the order accordingly
Troubleshooting
I got an error that the customer can’t be found
The email you entered needs to match an existing customer in Shopify. Double-check the email address, make sure the customer exists in your Shopify store, then sync again.
Nothing changed in Shopify
Make sure you’re editing the Customer Email field (which is syncable) and not a read-only customer field like Customer - Shopify ID.
