Shopify Fulfillment and Delivery Analytics

Shopify Fulfillment and Delivery Analytics

Shopify fulfillment analytics shows how quickly orders move from purchase to fulfillment and delivery. Mixtable combines order fields with fulfillment counts, quantities, timing, carrier, service, location, return, and sales context so you can find delays with a spreadsheet instead of reviewing orders individually.

Why measure fulfillment speed

Customers experience two waits: how long you took to ship, and how long the parcel took to arrive. Those are different problems with different owners, and a single “orders are slow” complaint tells you nothing about which one you have.

Measuring them separately lets you find out. Time to first fulfillment is yours to fix through staffing, picking, and stock. Time to delivery mostly belongs to your carrier, and the fix is a conversation or a different service.

Fulfillment reporting also tells you:

  • Whether promises like “ships within 24 hours” are actually true, before a customer proves otherwise
  • Which warehouse, location, or 3PL is slower than the rest
  • Which carrier is costing you delivery days on the same routes
  • How workload rises and falls through the year, so you can staff ahead of it
  • Which slow orders turned into refunds, since delivery delays and refunds tend to travel together

This is one of the few areas where analytics prevents complaints rather than explaining them afterward. A shipping delay you catch on Tuesday is an operations tweak; the same delay caught through support tickets is a week of angry emails and refunds.

Start with Order fulfillment & delivery speed

The ready-made Order fulfillment & delivery speed report creates an Orders worksheet for recent orders. It starts with orders from the last seven days and includes:

  • Order name and created date
  • Customer email
  • Shopify fulfillment and financial status
  • Order total
  • Shipping country
  • Fulfillment Count
  • Average Hours To First Fulfillment
  • Average Hours To Delivery
  • Return Request Count
  • Open Return Count
  • Average Hours To Close A Return
  1. Click the + button beside the worksheet tabs
  2. Select Reporting worksheet, then click Continue
  3. Under Shopify data worksheet with analytics columns, select Order fulfillment & delivery speed
  4. Click Continue
  5. Review the selected columns and row date range
  6. Click Create Worksheet

The recent date range keeps the operational worksheet focused. You can change the starting date before creating it when you need a wider review.

Fulfillment metrics

Fulfillment Count

Counts fulfillment records associated with the selected order activity or reporting row. One Shopify order can have more than one fulfillment, so Fulfillment Count can be larger than Orders Count.

Fulfilled Quantity

Totals quantities included in the relevant Shopify fulfillments. Compare it with sold quantities when investigating partially fulfilled orders.

Average Hours To First Fulfillment

Measures the average time from order activity to the first recorded fulfillment. This is useful for warehouse processing and handling-speed analysis.

Average Hours To Delivery

Measures the average time from the order to recorded delivery. Delivery timing depends on Shopify fulfillment and tracking data containing the necessary timestamps.

Filter fulfillment performance

Fulfillment metrics can be narrowed by:

  • Fulfillment status
  • Fulfillment service
  • Fulfillment location
  • Tracking company

General order filters such as customer segment, country, order type, source, retail location, discount campaign, or attribution can also be available depending on the selected metric.

To compare two operations groups, add the same metric twice with identical dates and change only one fulfillment filter. For example, create Average Hours To Delivery columns for two tracking companies or two fulfillment locations.

Build an operations scorecard

A useful Shopify fulfillment scorecard can include:

  • Orders Count
  • Fulfillment Count
  • Fulfilled Quantity
  • Average Hours To First Fulfillment
  • Average Hours To Delivery
  • Return Request Count
  • Open Return Count
  • Net Sales or Total Sales for business context

Volume and speed belong together. A location processing ten times as many fulfillments can reasonably have different timing from a small location. Compare like periods and keep the workload visible.

Find useful outliers

On an order-level worksheet:

  • Sort Average Hours To First Fulfillment from largest to smallest to find handling delays
  • Sort Average Hours To Delivery to find slow delivered orders
  • Filter Shopify fulfillment status to focus on unresolved work
  • Compare shipping country with delivery time to separate regional differences
  • Review Open Return Count beside delivery speed to find orders with continuing after-sale work

Add a notes column for the operational cause, such as inventory delay, warehouse backlog, carrier exception, or incomplete tracking data.

Fulfillment analytics and fulfillment worksheets

Fulfillment analytics calculates counts and timing. A Fulfillment worksheet loads one row per Shopify fulfillment, while a Fulfillment Line Item worksheet loads one row per fulfilled item.

Use fulfillment analytics to compare performance. Use the raw worksheets when you need tracking numbers, carrier details, fulfillment IDs, line-item SKUs, or an export of the underlying records.

Use the Order Fulfillment template

The Order Fulfillment template creates a Time Series worksheet that tracks the monthly number of fulfilled Shopify orders. It is useful for a simple long-term volume trend.

Use Order fulfillment & delivery speed when you need timing and order-level detail. Use the template when you only need the fulfilled-order count by month.

Interpret missing or zero timing values

A timing metric needs the relevant Shopify timestamps. A blank or zero value can mean that:

  • The order has not reached that event
  • Shopify does not have a delivered timestamp
  • Tracking details are incomplete
  • The selected filters exclude the relevant fulfillment
  • The timeframe does not contain the event being analyzed

Check the raw fulfillment fields before concluding that an order was delivered instantly or not fulfilled at all.
