Export Shopify Collections to Excel or CSV
Export Shopify Collections to Excel or CSV
Use Mixtable Explore & Export to download your Shopify collections as an Excel workbook or CSV file. You can export collection titles, handles, Shopify IDs, collection types, metafields, sales-channel fields, product counts, and other collection data without building a Shopify CSV by hand.
This guide exports the collections themselves, with one row per Shopify collection. If you instead need one row per product showing the manual collections it belongs to, see export Shopify products with collections.
Step 1: Create a Collections spreadsheet
- Install and open Mixtable Explore & Export
- Click Create Spreadsheet
- If more than one Shopify store is connected, choose the store you want to export
- Find the Organization section and select the Collections template
- Wait while Mixtable loads the collection data from Shopify
The template creates two worksheets:
- Collections contains one row per manual or automated Shopify collection
- Product Collections contains one row per product and shows its manual collection memberships
Select the Collections worksheet when you want a list of collection records.
Step 2: Choose the collection fields to export
The Collections worksheet starts with useful identifiers such as Title, Handle, Shopify ID, and Collection Type. Depending on your store, the template can also include collection metafields and sales-channel columns.
You can add other collection fields before exporting:
- Select an empty column, meaning a column without a green header
- Click the
button in that column header
- Select Shopify data fields
- Choose a field such as Description, Updated At, Sort Order, Product Count, or Template Suffix
- Click Save Column
Repeat these steps for every field you want in the export. You can remove unneeded columns, drag columns into a different order, and sort the worksheet before downloading it.
Tip: If you have been editing collections in Shopify while the spreadsheet is open, choose Shopify Sync, then Sync from Shopify before exporting.
Step 3: Export all collection worksheets to Excel
Choose Excel when you want both collection worksheets in one file or want to keep spreadsheet formatting and multiple tabs.
- Click Import & Export in the top toolbar
- Select Export to Excel
- Save the
.xlsxfile when your browser asks where to download it
Excel export downloads the entire Mixtable spreadsheet. The resulting file therefore includes both Collections and Product Collections, along with any other worksheets you added.
Step 4: Export one Collections worksheet to CSV
Choose CSV when another system expects a plain, single-table file.
- Select the Collections worksheet
- Click Import & Export
- Select Export to CSV
- Save the downloaded
.csvfile
A CSV can contain only one worksheet. Mixtable therefore exports whichever worksheet is active when you select Export to CSV. To export Product Collections separately, select that worksheet and repeat the process.
Export products and their collection memberships
The Product Collections worksheet answers a different question: which products belong to which manual collections?
It includes product titles and handles, plus a Product’s Manual Collections column. It also carries Add to Collections and Remove from Collections columns, which are editing tools rather than export data, so you can ignore them when you only want a file.
You can export that worksheet to CSV by selecting it before choosing Export to CSV, or include it alongside the collection list by exporting the full spreadsheet to Excel.
Automated collection membership is controlled by Shopify conditions. The product-membership worksheet lists manual collections, not the results of every automated collection rule.
For a detailed product-level workflow, see export Shopify products with collections.
Common questions
Does the export include manual and automated Shopify collections?
Yes. The Collections worksheet can show both types. Add or keep the Collection Type column so the exported file identifies each collection as manual or smart.
Can I export Shopify collection metafields?
Yes. The Collections template can add collection metafield columns beside the standard collection fields. Keep the metafields you need and remove the others before exporting.
Can I open the export in Google Sheets?
Yes. Export the spreadsheet to Excel or export the active worksheet to CSV, then upload that file to Google Sheets.
Does CSV export include both Collections worksheets?
No. CSV export downloads only the active worksheet. Use Excel export when you want multiple worksheets in one file.
