Shopify Customers With No Orders Template

The Customers With No Orders template creates a filtered Shopify Customers worksheet for customer records with zero orders. It is useful for reviewing leads, imported customer records, account registrations, and other profiles that have not converted into a purchase.

Why customers with no orders matter

Every store accumulates customer records that never bought: accounts created and abandoned, newsletter signups, imported lists, checkouts that stalled. They sit in Shopify counting toward your customer total and telling you nothing.

Pulling them into their own list turns dead weight into something you can act on:

  • A signup list to target with a first-purchase offer
  • A read on how many registrations actually convert
  • Imported records worth checking for bad data or duplicates
  • A cleaner customer base, since a store with 40,000 customers and 5,000 buyers is a very different business from one where those numbers match

Handle this list carefully. These are people who gave you their details and have not bought, so the right approach is usually one relevant offer rather than a heavy campaign, and you must respect the marketing consent recorded on each record.

Fields included

The worksheet contains:

  • Email
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Total Number of Orders

The worksheet filter includes customers whose Total Number of Orders equals 0. This template is a filtered customer list, so it does not add a sales metric by default.

What a zero-order customer means

A Shopify customer record can exist without a completed order. Examples can include:

  • A person who created an account but did not buy
  • A customer imported from another system
  • A lead or prospect created through an app or store workflow
  • A profile associated with an abandoned purchase journey
  • A record created by a member of your team

The worksheet tells you that the customer currently has zero orders. It does not identify the reason, prove that the person abandoned checkout, or indicate whether you can contact them for marketing.

Make the worksheet more useful

Add supported Shopify customer fields such as creation date, tags, location, account state, and marketing consent. These fields can help you separate recent registrations from old imported profiles or organize internal follow-up work.

Useful questions include:

  • How many zero-order customer records were created recently?
  • Are they concentrated in a country or customer tag?
  • Do older imported records still need to remain in Shopify?
  • Which profiles have valid marketing consent?

Apply worksheet filters or sorts to focus on the customer group you want to review.

Having no orders does not mean a person agreed to receive marketing. Always use Shopify’s consent data and follow the rules that apply to email, SMS, and other customer communications.

When a customer places a first order and Shopify customer data updates, the record no longer matches the zero-order condition and can move out of the conditional worksheet.
