Shopify Monthly Store Performance Template

The Monthly Store Performance template creates a Time Series worksheet with the latest 12 calendar months in the columns and a broad Shopify store metric in each row. It is the most complete ready-made storewide monthly summary in Mixtable.

Why this report is the one to check monthly

Most stores rebuild the same summary every month: pull the numbers, paste them into a sheet, fix the formulas, notice something looks wrong, start again. This template is that sheet, filled in from your store, with the last twelve months already there.

Its real value is that the metrics sit together. A single revenue figure tells you a month was up or down; thirteen rows tell you why:

• Sales rose but discounts rose faster, so you bought the growth
• Orders were flat but average order value climbed, so baskets got bigger
• Net Sales held while refunds climbed, so a problem is building
• Total Sales grew faster than Net Sales, so shipping or duties are doing the work

That is the difference between a report you read and a report you act on. It is also the fastest way to see seasonality, since twelve months of every metric sit on one screen.

Create the Monthly Store Performance spreadsheet

1. Install Mixtable Analytics Spreadsheet
2. Click Create Spreadsheet
3. Search for or select Monthly Store Performance
4. Create the spreadsheet

Read the sales bridge

Use these rows together:

• Gross Sales for original merchandise value
• Total Discounts for promotion deductions
• Total Refunds Excluding Tax for money returned
• Net Sales for retained merchandise revenue
• Tax, shipping, duties, and fees for wider order components
• Total Sales for the broader Shopify order total

This makes the monthly changes easier to explain than a single sales row.

Separate order growth from basket growth

Compare:

• Order Count
• Average Order Value
• Average Order Gross Quantity
• Average Order Net Quantity

If Net Sales increases while Order Count is flat, Average Order Value or quantity may be rising. If orders increase while Average Order Value falls, growth may be coming from more smaller baskets.

Compare completed months

The newest month is month to date. Avoid comparing it directly with a completed prior month unless both periods contain the same number of elapsed days.

For regular reviews:

• Use the latest completed month for month-over-month analysis
• Compare the same month last year for seasonality
• Add fixed-date columns for like-for-like month-to-date comparisons

Add growth formulas

Add formula columns for:

• Month-over-month Net Sales growth
• Discount amount as a share of Gross Sales
• Refund amount as a share of Gross Sales
• Shipping or duties per order
• Change in Average Order Value

Keep the raw monthly values visible beside calculated rates.

Add or change metrics

In a Time Series worksheet, each row defines a metric and each column defines a time period.

To add a store metric row:

1. Click the button in an empty row header
2. Choose Store
3. Select the metric
4. Add optional order filters
5. Enter a label, or keep the suggested label
6. Click Save Row

To add a month or year, use the button in an empty column header and configure the time period.
